Mykita Sunglasses + Bernhard Willhelm Handmade in Berlin

Mykita frames has with a highly innovative functional design comprising simple plug connections, made complex soldered joints and screw connections redundant. The frames themselves are cut out of stainless sheet steel before being folded into form. As well as being incredibly light, the latter can be adjusted to the wearer thanks to a wide variety of configuration options.

The MYKITA LITE series sets a new standard of featherweight design for the Berlin eyewear brand. The stainless steel frames have a newly enhanced screw-less hinge system and are composed solely of three pieces. Lenses are now likewise easy to mount with the help of a thread – and without the need to open the frame.
MYKITA LITE
The extremely refined design of this series adds an extra touch of class to the MYKITA product family. A unique feature is a very thin temple with a silicon covered tip that can be bent into shape to fit snugly behind the individual’s ear. The low-key design of the LITE collection is ideal for everyday wear. The first edition comprised six simple and classic forms for men and women: BJÖRN, BOSSE, BRITT, FINN, FRIDA and LASSE.
MYKITA Style: ODA
MYKITA Style: ULF
The Opti trade fair witnessed the debut of two new MYKITA designs, ODA and ULF. These slimline aviator models are aimed at two target groups: the over-60s, who have always worn such frames; and wearers two generations below them, who are now reinventing the similarly styled old glasses they were fascinated to discover in grandpa’s desk drawer. The younger group are the driving force behind the renaissance of this design. The frames are striking but laid-back, akin to a slightly smaller version of a hip pair of sunglasses.
The teardrop shape of the ODA frame harmonises especially well with distinctive facial features, the rounded form of the lenses serving to soften chiseled cheekbones and chins. It is ideal for smaller female faces, while ULF was designed for slim-faced men. Both models are also suitable for lenses with higher prescriptions.
The LITE frames are available in five different metallic colours, ranging from brown and blackberry to graphite, silver and gold.
In short, MYKITA LITE comprises a range of sophisticated frames, with the added bonus of easy mounting and adjusting for opticians. For more information visit online at www.mykita.com.
Lady Gaga wears MYKITA
Name at birth: Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta
Lady GaGa is a singer, songwriter, and proud seeker of skin-deep pop culture celebrity. Her 2008 debut album, The Fame, stated her goal and achieved it all at once. Born into a New York Italian family, she went to Convent of the Sacred Heart (the same high school as Paris and Nicky Hilton) and attended New York University. A self-professed fan of the glam rock of David Bowie and Queen, she made her way into the New York club scene and wrote songs for the Pussycat Dolls before scoring her own record deal and releasing The Fame, with its hit singles “Poker Face,” “Just Dance” and “Beautiful Dirty Rich.” Lady GaGa is just as famous for her devotion to hot pants and outrageous fashion, with a look that seems to be equal parts Cher, Christina Aguilera and Joan Crawford.
Extra credit: She spells her name Gaga or GaGa, depending on whim… According to a 2009 report in The Times of London, she “works with a collective called the Haus of GaGa, who collaborate with their muse on clothing, stage sets and sounds. ‘In this industry, you get a lot of stylists and producers thrown at you, but this is my own creative team, modelled on Warhol’s Factory. Everyone is under 26 and we do everything together.’”
No, they are not Kanye West knock-offs. They are shutter-shade glasses that will look fierce and will shield the sun from your eyes. They are designed by Roman Kremer for Mykita’s Spring/Summer collection of 2010.
A few photos from the set of Sex & The City 2 surfaced this week. I’m sure all the rage is about the Chanel handbag Sarah Jessica Parker is carrying. Here at Mykita the excitement is the limited Edition Bernhard Willhelm/Mykita sunglasses she is wearing. The gold frame/gold-mirror lens Franz was inspired by the 1976 Winter Olympics.
